Hi Aaron--right now it's a NO end rental--I don't have a specific property in mind I was just curious because I kept hearing about granite counters ;)
We installed laminate in the house that we do have, but I think if we had known more at the time we would have chosen some sort of lower grade granite. The people we had installing the counter dripped some polyurethane (or something) on the counter and damaged the finish--it wasn't a big spot, but it looked bad. I was trying to think of ways to prevent something like that in the future, plus I've found out that it just looks a lot better. Our house is lower end rental, but I think I still would have chosen differently.

(this is going to be good...)
Hello BP People!
Is anyone here currently buying in Gary IN? I'm thinking about it and I'd like to hear about some of your experiences. Which areas do you buy in, which ones do you avoid?
Now before everyone picks up a red flag and starts parading through this thread, let me add that I was born and raised in Gary, and I'm very comfortable moving around there.
I'm certainly no expert, but I am familiar with the different areas and I'm already thinking about the areas I'd be interested in looking at.
I'm not ready to buy anything right now--I'm just looking ahead and trying to learn as much as I can right now.
Thanks!

when you mentioned dealers in your area, I did a search for a dealer near here and checked their website--they have a huge selection. When you chose granite, do you have a certain kind that you generally use, or do you choose it based on the design and colors in the kitchen?

Thanks Phillip, I wish we'd known about this site a couple of years ago. We inherited a house from my dear little auntie and made a few updates here and there. We completely did NOT know what we were doing. If I'd known more about countertops then, I think I would have chosen a solid countertop--at least I'm getting a better idea of what to do now.

@Jon Holdman We stopped by Menards yesterday to pick up a few things yesterday, so I got a chance to take a quick look at their counters. They didn't have a big selection--but I did get an idea--they're nice. I like quartz too. I never heard of Floors and Décor before, we don't really have those in our area. The closet one isn't tooo far away--I'll keep them in mind for the future. I looked at their website, they have some nice stuff.
Thanks!
