Post: solution for automatically generating door code on Schlage lock

Our automation tools are almost identical!

The only thing is that I recently switched to Guesty as our PM software. It is because I am also helping other people manage some properties and they use Guesty. It is very expensive, but is designed for large property management projects. So it is probably easier for me to use limited time to learn one software rather than 2!

After some shopping, we eventually switched to RemoteLock. Still testing it, but the integration process is longer than what we originally expected: for those bookings prior to the integration, you have to manually import them and send them to guests via Email, which is annoying. I wonder what is your solution on that.

Thanks for sharing!

Schlage Encode.

Any updates on your experience with Operto? I am shopping for all these options and Operto becomes one of the major options.

Thanks

That makes total sense!

Thank you!

Yes, we use Hostaway but I know Guesty also supports the ability to serve up the iCal export to input into the Rboys program.  This will be what is needed to automatically generate the door lock codes b/c the iCal has the reservation details in it so the lock can create the codes off of that.  As Ken said, just have an auto-generated message that says "Your door lock codes is the last 4 digits of your phone number, <<Phone Number>>".  Within Guesty's messages they will have the option to insert FIELD into your messages, and I would insert either the <Guest Phone Number> field or the <Last 4 of Guest Phone Number" if they have it.  This way the guest knows exactly what phone number is on the reservation that you are using to generate the code.

If you PM me directly, I can share with you a Door Lock Setup Guide that I created for our team that walks through how to set the locks up so everything is autogenerated without having to touch it after.

What property management software do you use? We currently use Guesty and according to Rboy customer service, they mentioned that we could expert calendar to RBoy RLA and codes will be automatically generated. But I wonder how these codes are automatically sent to my guests?

Thanks

We use a SmartThings Hub, Zwave Lock, Rboys Rental Lock Automator and it works very well for 50 properties we have under management.  There are a couple issues that come up from time to time with connectivity on the zwave products, but it works very well when connectivity isn't an issue.

Also, as Ken mentioned, paying $100 upfront for the software is way better than pay $10/lock in perpetuity for typical SAAS solutions.  Those licenses are transferable to new properties too if needed.

For some reason, that Samsung stopped making the smart hub and now it is called Aerotech. Do you know any substitute products for that? They jacked up the price quite a bit if I remember correctly.

Thanks

Great to know that such solutions exist! I called Schlage for this question and they knew nothing about the automation of the lock.

But $0.75 per code? hmmmm....

Thanks @Ken!

If I am not mistaken YourPorter PMS has a service that allows you do this cross channel with that lock.  I think they charge you .75 each time.

Hi, All

I did a little research and have a new (but related) question:

It seems most current solutions to automate key generation process requires the smart lock to have z-wave (or signee) technology. Has anyone successfully automated the code generation on a WIFI-based smart lock, such as Schlage Encode smart lock?

Thanks

Lee

Brian

I am looking for a similar solution and came across your post:

Since Schlage Encode does not use z-wave, am I correct that your RBOY RLA still works with Schlage Encode lock well?

Thanks

Ditto. I use Samsung Smartthings to tie everything together and also use Rental Lock Automator (RLA) from R Boy Apps to automate code generation and programming to my Schlage Encode lock.

Glad to know that this solution works for your situation well! Thanks for sharing this solution that does not require monthly fees, which can be very expensive over the long term.

Thanks again!

I used SmartThings before and to be honest, I would try to avoid it as much as possible: it adds an extra link for connecting some older smart locks to internet that only increases the chance of getting errors and number of wires and gadgets in the living room.

I heard from several hosts that they only change locks on a monthly basis. I personally think it is dangerous to have several of your guests share the same code.

Thanks
