You've come to the right place to build your network and learn more about real estate investing. Spend the next 3-6 months here on the forums, listening to the podcasts, and reading books. You will start to grasp all of the different benefits of owning real estate and learn the different real estate investing strategies pretty quick.
Plus your experience as a firefighter probably will translate over to your investing business, just because you are getting a very deep perspective on different neighborhoods all around your market. This will help you hone in on an area you'd like to invest. Very different than people who sit at a desk for 40 hours a week.
