Hi Wil! So excited to be connected with you! We should totally get together and brainstorm! :) So you are in SF? I am heading to Seattle today for a few weeks, let' plan to catch up mid to late March. In the meantime, do you think it would be worth setting up a young professionals green REI group on meetup? I could totally do that, i think its just a small fee. Looking forward to learning more about your grand plans!! :)

And thanks, Cory, for the note a well! Too funny you were at 14th and mass, my is at 13th and Mass! The home I own is in Fort Totten - walking distance to the metro. Actually, DC has a great system of access to wind power - we can switch to it by simply going through Ethical Electric, who has a partnership with Pepco. You fill out paperwork and its as simple as that - Ethical Electric begins to run you power from a wind farm, rather than from fossil fuels. Requires a bit of trust of course :)

Thanks so much, Larry! I really appreciate that encouragement. I have joined a networking group for real estate investors in the bay area, but i am considering starting one for green real estate specifically, potentially even for younger mini-real estate tycoons (or budding real estate tycoons!) like myself :) I think there should be strong interest in this area, combined purchase power could go a long way for a small development of green building or off grid housing community. Thanks again for your note!

Hello all,
I am a budding real estate tycoon (or at least i like to think so!), and have so far bough one home in Washington DC that will be registered as an investment property and rented out as of September 30th 2015. I now have my sights set on the West Coast - where I would like to have a home base that I can also rent out to have the bills paid and then some. My specialty is green real estate - in DC, I have my homes on 100% wind energy, for example. In California, I want to experiment with the tiny house or sustainable building designs, on a small piece of land that gives me that flexibility. My preference would be to find a small piece of land, a lot, of maybe even half an acre, in Oakland. I've begun exploring and looks like options are limited. I am willing to open up the area of search some, but wonder if anyone knows of ways to engage current land owners, to see if they would be interested in selling a small portion of their land. Could this be a better way to go than waiting for land to come available and bidding? Any other considerations you think you should flag for me?
Thanks in advance!
Marielle
