@Josh L. It sounds like a decent plan to me.  I think a lot of people purchase their own primary residence before they take the plunge into investing, especially when you are considering the lifestyle your family is used to.  But as Greg mentioned there are inherit risks in flipping a home.  I am not sure the degree of rehab you are looking to do on the property but the more you fix the higher the risks become.  Personally living in the DFW area I am not sure how much you need to fix up at the moment.  The value of homes is going up very quickly, at least at the moment, so you should see gains in that way.

It may be a good idea to look at your options for a cash out refinance after your purchase before you buy.  There are different loan programs and if you plan on getting two mortgages within the next couple of years it is good to plan ahead so you know how the mortgages interact with each other.

Good luck with your purchases!

Hi @Sean Kirkham welcome to BP!

If you are interested in meeting some more local BP members you should come to one of the meetups.  I have one next Tuesday at 5:30p in Plano at RA Sushi in the Shops at Legacy.  You can get the information at biggerpockets.com/events.  We usually have a great turn out and there are quite a few people who would be interested in your deals.  Thx and have a great week

@Stephen Niermann

I agree with you, I think it is a great system which provides targeting finances to local municipalities.  I think the issue many of us face in North Texas are the rising home prices and rising assessments.  None of us can argue the home prices are increasing a great deal and the assessments reflect this.

Hey @Eric Urioste I have worked with @Dale Tucker and Becky before, they are great.

Best of luck on your search!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend. I wanted to give you an invite for the next two meet ups coming up for the group. We are having a Happy Hour meetup as well as another lunch meeting. Because the last event had so many people I have secured a private room for us at Gordon Biersch. Hopefully this will make it easier to network and meet everyone who attends. The happy hour meetup is at Ra Sushi and they have given us a private area as well.

We are also on meetup.com now, you can search for our group and find us, North DFW Real Estate Investors.... I am working on the name, it is really long. The link for the events are also below.
