@Rory Darcy

Welcome to BP!

Have you considered using a property management company?

Illinois is a great market, but I agree with most that it would be much easier if the investment were closer to you. Managing a property hours away can be challenging if any issues arise, but having a third-party property management company could help handle those situations and make things more manageable.

I think you are in the right place to gain some insight on what would make you successful.

Quote from @Urvesh Patel:

@Meghan Carson sounds good and thank you for the suggestion. I have a feeling Columbus is pricier than Cleveland. Any zips/neighborhoods in Columbus/Cleveland you'd recommend?

PS: I have a good realtor from Cleveland area which I plan on using. I am trying to broaden my knowledge for Cleveland from other people's experience and learn more about Columbus

 I would start looking at the lower-cost - low-crime markets in these zip codes: 43017, 43081, 43229, 43026, and 43082.

@Lauren Frazer

Hi Lauren, Welcome to BP!

What part of Boston are you in? My brother and sister live right outside the Revere and Back Bay area!

I'm ready to come back for some lobster.

Take a look at the rookie podcast here on BP. I think you will gain a lot there.

@Moustafa Said
Welcome to bigger pockets and congratulations to you and your new Bride!

What kind of businesses do you run? I am always fascinated by hearing what other investors do outside of their investment business.

Im assuming you want to invest out of state, correct? What methods are you considering doing? And have you researched what markets you think you want to look into?

Take a look at this podcast from BP - it goes over Beginner friendly ways to start investing and you will take alot from it.

Is This the Most Beginner-Friendly Way to Start Investing? - BP PODCAST

Wishing you the best in you and your wife's future!

@Jacob Campbell

Hi Jacob, and welcome to the community.

I currently work with investors looking to build their portfolio with single-family, long-term rentals while managing for them on the back end, making is hands-free for the investor to still work their W-2 job and live their everyday lives and spend it with family, hobbies, etc.

Many markets across the country are experiencing impressive growth and stability. I like to focus on the Mid-South and Midwest regions, particularly states like Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma.

If you ever want to connect and go over your goals and swap investment strategies, I would love to do so.

Wishing you the best, Jacob.

@Urvesh Patel

Welcome to Bigger Pockets!
Happy to have you here.

Cleveland is a great market. I'd look at Columbus as well, with hospitals like OhioHealth and Nationwide Children's Hospital. Traveling nurses and other medical staff are a strong resident base.

Wishing you the best!
