I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Montreal. It was lovely, and probably not too expensive. It's been about 16 years since I've been there, though. The room was very comfortable. Bon Voyage!!!

I read the article you suggested, Tom C, but it doesn't really explain how the workers have been getting screwed over all these years. If anything, they've got a sweet deal still, compared to the average working class American. That could all change if these auto makers go bankrupt, of course. Some things here just don't make sense. :shake:

Yes, exactly, Tom C. It's greed of the unionized workers that's making these companies fail. I happen to belong to a union, and my fellow union members and I don't make anywhere near what these UAW workers are getting paid- and many of them don't even have to work for their money. Which kind of makes me wonder if the days of Unions in America are numbered, if you consider the worst case scenario, with the economy being the way it is and all. :cap:

I've had enough of American cars, after having several that, like you said, were ready for the junkyard at 100K miles. I heard somewhere that UAW members earn about $45 per hour, while Toyota pays their American workers about $12 per hour. No wonder American cars are so overpriced. And that still doesn't address the issues of durability and reliability, in which the American cars are clearly inferior.
BTW, if someone is deadset on buying American but they want longevity & reliability in a car, they might look at the Pontiac Vibe, which has earned high marks from consumer testing companies and is basically a Toyota Matrix with a Pontiac nametag.

I agree, the UAW has a stranglehold on these US automakers that is choking them to death. Besides the fact that most Americans would rather buy a Honda or a Toyota than an American car. People want cars that are reliable and last a long time.
