If you had a really old house with knob and tube maybe if you pulled permit to renovate you Might have to redo... not sure.  I think the short answer would be no not normally.  some vacant houses get stripped of copper wire and copper drains... that would require a redo.

interesting...   """But Fannie Mae's Simmons believes that this boomer logjam is not going to be here for long. "Boomers will not inhabit this vast inventory (32 million homes) forever," and with the change in circumstances i.e. aging, watch out. "Their actions will reverberate through the housing market.""" found here  http://www.realtytoday.com/articles/57697/20151202/baby-boomers-causing-shortage-real-estate-inventory.htm

so, if people are leaving Iowa and moving to Colorado (just making this up) the the inventory should grow in Iowa and shrink in CO ...  But, what does it mean if the inventory is down everywhere...  why would the traditional market not be bringing houses up for sale??  WHAT gives here.  Has the investor (us) skewed the market.  Maybe the millennials are moving out and buying.  Thoughts??

Any other areas seeing a low inventory??  I was just trying to get a feel beyond Denver.  thanks

I am not 100% sure but thinking you need to change the locks and secure the premise with a note that access can be made with your presence...  but you better wait on more feedback from BP.

the zoning... will the 2 lots allow 2 homes.. sometimes you need 2 lots to build one home.. make sure you talk to the local planning dept and just tell them your idea and they will generally say  yay or nay..  flood planes?? don't overbuild for the area.. do you want a duplex where you might be able to have one water and sewer or 2 separate homes.. good luck

Hi @Melsi Bifsha do you own any properties??  At that price you might just try a local bank and see what they can do.  if you have other properties with equity you might try to get a heloc and go that route..I would not use another home as collateral unless last  hope..  don't lose 2 properties in hope of getting one... will it appraise and how much money needed  in repairs .  No family member could help or neighbor ??  this could be a nice property to grow a financial relationship..
