Welcome to bigger pockets @AJ Randle Glad to see another person the in Lubbock area interested in notes. I am in the same boat you are, just starting out and trying to learn all I can. I think I saw you at the REIA meeting last week but didn't get a chance to introduce myself. There is tons of great info on this site about both notes and wholesaling so its a great place to start. You might also want to check out the NoteMBA podcast over at NoteMBA.com. They focus just on note investing and I have found it pretty insightful so far.

I am cautious about relying too heavily on an umbrella policy. Insurance companies make their money buy taking premiums and always looking for a way to not have to pay out. They did a really good podcast on this subject. It was show 109 with Scott Smith.  I included the link for it below.

Podcast 109

@Jeff Smith Do these meetings still take place and if so has the location or the time changed?

@Gonz Trevino thanks for the advice. That really was my plan. I want to learn as much as I can before I buy my first investment property to try and avoid some big mistakes. I would love to meet some of your connections, maybe take them out to dinner if they don't mind me asking them a bunch of questions

I actually hadn't heard that and I never really understood the worst weather thing. Its not that bad lol. I am trying to decide what areas of town to focus on for SFRs and multi-families. I have been leaning toward frienship or cooper school districts. What is your take on those areas or have you had any success in them?

I am currently working as an IT networking specialist with a local company in Lubbock, TX. My interests for now are mostly in buy and hold of single family homes and small multifamily. I am trying to learn as much as i can right now to try and avoid any big mistakes but I am hoping to buy my first investment property within about a year. Once I have a few properties I want to start being more aggressive about growing my portfolio and then move onto small apartment complexes
