Was Vegas a popular place to live (as opposed to vacation, gambling) prior to the housing boom?

I love idea of banning donations & lobbyists to rid ourselves of bought-and-sold politicians ... what about allotting each candidate set amount so everyone is on equal footing? Say, here's your $1m and that's it. This might even help with elected officials campaigning (building their war chest) while still in office .... not sure if it'd be possible to police especially with outside forces finding multiples loopholes. Right now the amount of money needed to run for a Senate or House seat pretty ridiculous.

Article is great example why you should do the opposite of what the masses are doing or being preached to do .... I believe we are in a golden period of real estate investing for those willing to do their due diligence and have the patience and funds to endure the next few turbulent years.

Article points to most likely scenario where Republicans win the House, Democrats keep the Senate .... should Republicans take both will this finally stimulate job creation as companies welcome a more pro-business environment? What's your prediction and how will it affect things?

Quack, quack ....72-0 Oregon victory vs a D-1 school albeit not a very good one I presume. Easy pre-season schedule so will see how they fare in a pretty good Pac 10 conference. Back-to-back Rose Bowls not out of the question.
