Post: Amazon HQ2 - REI Opportunity?

It's a fool's errand trying to figure where Amazon HQ2 will end up. In the coming months I imagine Amazon will narrow down to a handful of options (if they haven't already done so) and conduct site visits, further negotiations, etc. But aside from any folks who may be privy to such info, it's all just a fun guessing game.

So instead of picking a winner, let's cast a wide net and figure there's a high probability that HQ2 ends up in one of the following handful of metros: Atlanta, Philly, Chicago, Boston, Austin, Denver, Dallas, DC. These figure to be the frontrunners in the US for many analysts. So which REI markets would HQ2 impact the most? Remember, many Seattleites blame (or in REI I guess celebrate) Amazon for much of the skyrocketing prices, along with traffic/congestion, etc, over the past 15 years or so. The potential impact of HQ2 is enormous.

Which market do you think presents the most opportunities for investment should HQ2 locate in that city/region?

@David R. Thanks for following up. Sorry to hear about your setback. Good luck! I hope to follow this story for many years and see a positive trend/outcome.

At some point in the future I'd like to invest in Chicago or Philly, which is the reason for my interest in the thread. I've mostly done cheap cash flow markets, but would like to get in on something in a more major market if for no other reason than I'd like to have a property in a vibrant urban city that I can spend time in a few decades from now lol.

Just adding to the topic, I last hung out in the area back in June after Social Grounds Coffee Shop and Hyperion Brewing opened and it was already feeling pretty vibrant. Now that Crispy's is open, the other brewery is opening soon, and 9th and Main and a new grocery store are on the docket, I think the ship is sailing as far as Springfield being under the radar.

I think it was alright. There were just a handful of us (4 I think?) and it was perhaps a bit awkward as SPAR's goals don't align entirely with a REI's, (not to mention the area has already been inundated by REIs for many years) but nevertheless I think everyone got at least a little bit out of it. And walking the neighborhood on foot, especially with a guide intending to show off the architecture and potential, will naturally offer a positive perspective.

I am not an expert but I'd say it really depends on which part of "Springfield."

I have moved away and while I still buy and sell in Jax I am only there about 10% of the time. I did this because I was personally invited by the guys at SPAR and decided I might as well open it up to others while I'm already going myself. Sure I'd be open to something like this again but all things considered there's no imminent plan.

I've spoken with some folks online here and there who have interest in what's going on near the stadium and the Eastside...I could see something in a year or two where that part of town may have opportunities and if we have enough people we could walk the areas and look at turning more blocks around. Just a thought.

You should definitely be able to find what you're looking for. What is the price range you're aiming for and do you expect to pay cash or have a loan?
