@Jonathan Alindayu , We probably have about the same commute, just in opposite directions. I go from Shoreline to Factoria, so usually get one podcast a day (with rewinds). We do own our home here in Shoreline, so technically I'm already invested up north, but if I knew then what I know now... Do love our home, but it would at least have a MIL! We're still evaluating the markets... We'd love to be able to get in to the Shoreline/Northgate/Greenwood area, but quite the cost of entry... It's mostly just education for us right now. My wife and I also have a 2 and 4 year old, so saving for that first (second) property is a bit of an uphill battle currently.

Best of luck to you!

Welcome Jonathan! Another Seattle-ite, I'm on the north side myself, but born and raised so familiar with Kent and the area. I'm in the same boat you are, total newbie, but consider BP a great site. I usually listen to the podcasts on my way in to and home from work everyday.

Another Washingtonian, good to have you @Gerald K. Here's the link to the meetup that @Marc Ramsay mentioned (I hope it's okay to post outside links like this...@Brandon Turner ?):

We have one this Sunday, not sure if I'll be there or if the Hawks v. Niners will win out...

Sounds like you're doing exactly what my wife and I plan to move forward with, SFHs... It seems to be a current sweet spot in this crazy Seattle buy and hold market

Hey Zach, thanks for the invite. We love Shoreline and surrounding area as well, but it's a bit expensive, and seems like the rent-to-purchase prices may make it difficult to pay a mortgage with and come out ahead, at least in the beginning. I'll check out the meetup and hopefully I can make it happen.

Michael, I hope it's a little warmer at least, but I agree. I spent several years when I was younger and single going to Hawaii for winters, would arrive in October or November, and then leave as soon as the winds shift in May. We visit every few years, but the idea of picking up and moving right now with the little ones is a little overwhelming, but down the line, could be a possibility.

Hey everyone, thanks for having me. My wife and I are interested in entering the landlord business, and no time like the present, right? I'm a software developer and she's a social worker, we live in Shoreline with our two boys (age 2 and 4). We bought our home just over a year ago. I was born and raised here in Seattle, but most of my family is on Oahu. My wife is from the Los Angeles area, but we met on the beautiful island of Kauai. We are both total newbies to real estate, but are willing and eager and have been devouring information.
