I wouldn't sweat it. Maybe he was just trying to toot his own horn. But I do agree with you that people are surprised when I tell them I own my own home and don't rent.

I think a lot of people would agree that your first purchase is always the hardest. I would start there and learn from the mistakes you make. Always continue your education through books, podcasts, webinars and meetups. As for the approach you take, everyone has different skillsets and goals. Make a plan and execute it to reach the goals you set. Good luck and welcome!
