I received both of J Scott's books earlier this week as well, the flipping book and estimating rehab costs. I'm only a chapter or so into the flipping book but as mentioned it is very addicting. It is well written and an easy read, easy to follow guide. Excellence! Loving it so far. Going to attempt to knock them out this weekend for sure.

I agree with Christopher Goldie on working on both. I also never thought about a closed cash transactions list from an agent. Seems like a pretty solid idea to me.

@April Vasquez

Welcome!

As @Christian Dunlap said you most definitely do not need to spend money on so called guru courses. I too was hyped up by that kind of stuff, but I shortly after found BP and have been hooked! It's an amazing resource with tons of great information and tons of people willing to help you where they can.

Read all you can and actively engage on the forums with others. And definitely definitely listen to the podcasts! So many different guests and different aspects and views of real estate investing there. @Joshua Dorkin and @Brandon Turner do an excellent job hosting and putting those together every week! Big thanks to those guys for that while I'm on the subject!

I'm no expert but you can reach out to me and I'll be glad to help where I can. If I don't know the answer I can at least point you to someone who does. Best of luck to you on your real estate investing adventure!

@Mayank S.

Welcome! I too am a newbie in VA. Down in the Hampton roads area. I will be attending the 3 day FB workshop as well in a couple weeks. However definitely not paying for their outrageous mentorship program. But with my limited knowledge I figured I would go and take what I could from it. Surely it won't hurt.

If you haven't already started, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the BP podcasts. Excellent stuff and I have learned an unbelievable amount of information soley from listening to those for the short period of time that I've been a member here on BP.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

Thanks guys.

@Grant Smith I appreciate the feedback. I have looked into TRIG and will definitely in the near future be getting involved. I will also look into PREIA. Thanks for the info, and congrats on your first rental!

Hello to all of BP!  I have been reading on the forums for a couple weeks now and have finally decided to join.

My name is Robert Barnes. I'm 27 years old and completely brand new to the world of real estate and real estate investing. I'm quite excited to feel I have a place to get started. I'm currently employed full time but am looking to take control of my destiny, gain career and financial independence, and create a better future for myself and the loved ones in my life.

The only real estate experience I have is the one property that I purchased in 2013 to be my primary residence, which is now rented out. Investing was not in the forefront of my mind when it was purchased. I was actually planning on living in it for a much longer period of time.

Im thinking I would like to be able to acquire more rental property and and eventually jump into rehabbing. But for now as a total newb I am focusing all my time and energy on educating myself as much as I can before I jump into anything. I know I have a TON to learn. Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I look forward to meeting and getting to know many of you here on BP!
