@Steve Babiak yes, we top the bed with a layer of red clay, just like we do our slabs. Also, in our area, the sidewalk and driveway do not fall under code and don't require permits.

Here are pictures of the driveway and sidewalk being placed. Unfortunately, I skimped on the picture taking toward the end of the project. But I will post pics of the finished house shortly.
