Before becoming a realtor I used redfin, zillow, realtor to help with this. If you look daily in the same area for an extended amount of time you start to get an idea of the values of the product you are seeking. Also, go walk the open houses for things in your market to get an even better idea.

@Rod Merriweather this is a sticky situation for sure. Call around to other providers and get quotes, the unfortunate thing is your house now has a ding that all carriers will see however you should still be able to get a better rate than provided through your mortgage company.

best of luck!

@Veronica Osorio have you considered looking a bit south in Indian River county? I personally invest in Sebastian and we get solid returns. We like the small multi family in this market. Happy to dive in deeper if you like.

@Adam Labadie this is more of a budgeting question. The real question is are you comfortable using that % of your after tax income to provide housing for your family? We own properties in Fl on the east coast and with the rise of taxes and insurance rates your fixed costs could increase. Have you considered house hacking? Possibly buy a duplex in the are you like, live in one side and rent the other to offset some of the expenses?

@Welmon Pippin have you tried joining local FB groups to the property and asking for referrals there? Could be another great way to source help. Best of luck!

@Anthony Stahurski personally have not used a VA loan as the don't apply to me personally. 1. However, when starting out it would have been great to house hack a 4 unit. If you are able to find a way to get a few of these in your portfolio your financial trajectory will be amazing. 2. Real estate is a long game, it is like planting a tree, it takes years before you can start to see any significant shade (cash flow) from your actions today. Investing in real estate is the best thing a person can do to secure there financial position in the future in my opinion. Best of luck!
