Post: Pet fee, pet deposit AND pet rent...

Hey, BP!
I thought I would post this question here since I'm planning to own rentals myself.
I'm planning to move after I get married later this year so my fiancee and I are looking for potential places. We found a community we really liked, but they charge:
$250 non-refundable fee per pet
$250 deposit per pet
$??? pet rent /pet/month.
Their website didn't specify how much the pet rent is but if I had to guess, it would be $20-$30.
I understand the need for paying extra for pets, but that feels like overkill. Especially since we have two lazy adult cats. Is this common or am I just overreacting? If it matters, I'm from Houston, TX and we're planning to move to the Woodlands / Conroe area.
Thanks!

That's not far from where I live! I've never been to a meetup before. Is there anything I should be aware of?

Hi, @Chris McDaniel,
If you're still looking for someone, my stepdad is a carpenter. He's been working in the craft for about 15 years and has done tables, chairs, cabinets, trim work, windows, among other things.
If you've ever been to any of the "El Tiempo Cantina" locations, he's the one that did most of their woodwork.
I'll send you a request with more information.

I've actually been curious about this. I don't own any property (yet) but I drive by several multifamily buildings on my way home from work and notice many of them only have window units. Why is that? Is central air conditioning for each unit not a viable option (like in apartment complexes)? Or is it just a "that's how it's always been" thing?

Hello everyone!
My name is Josue Guzman. I graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in mathematics (mostly out of love for the subject) not really knowing what I wanted in life. After a few months working for a local insurance company, I came to realize (like many others here) that working for someone else would never take me where I want to be.
That's when I decided to look for options. No matter from how many angles I look at it, real estate seems so logical, and so I've decided to start learning about it. I signed up with BP, bought books, started reading and downloaded the podcasts which I now listen to in my car. For now I think I want to start with flipping even if it's not in the Houston area.
I had not bothered to introduce myself before because I thought I didn't have much to offer to the community. Besides, I'm getting married this year and that's where my money and focus is currently going. However, it just occurred to me that I might have something to contribute after all. My stepfather is a carpenter and has been working in the craft for over 15 years. I'll post more about it in the Marketplace forum.
I'm not sure what to do other than keep reading and listening for now but I'm open to suggestions.
Have a nice day.
