Thank you to all!  I had no idea this thread would take off the way it has.  I'm glad it did though.  Pretty much looks to me like being a Realtor and house flipper are COMPLETELY different businesses.

I've no plans on this being a full-time income.  I simply thought I could earn an additional $50k a year (maybe less).  I just know that I've inspected hundreds of houses for investors.  I can walk in a house and know in a couple minutes if it's a dog or not.  I have a construction background, 14 years' home inspection experience, plus I'm an entrepreneur, so I thought it would be a good fit.  I'm looking forward to it.

I'm glad I found this resource.

I'll keep you posted once my 1st flip is squared away.

Thank you for all the info.

Cheers!

Shane

@ Pete Schmidt

Nice! Fancy meeting you here.  lol!

Thanks for the offer partner (and the kind words).

Talk soon.

Cheers!

Nice!  Good points by all. It's a different kind of work the average Realtor has no interest in, is what I'm gathering.  Good to know.

I'm approaching my downtown in the inspection industry so I'll have more time to put into my 1st flip.  I don't have high expectations.  I expect to walk away with $5k or more profit for my 1st one.  It'll be fun because my wife and 14 year old son can help with the dirty work.

I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers!

I've been a home inspector for 14 years, and I'm just now getting into flipping houses.  I'm a total neophyte, for now.   But I'm curious about something.  If flipping houses is so good and such a lucrative business, why don't more Realtors do it?

I'm in an area where there are about 4,000 Realtors, but only around 300 members of the local REI group.

I couldn't help but wonder why.

I'm curious to hear what you have to say about it.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers!

Shane

Hey,

Shane Boyd here.

I just found biggerpockets while looking for information on house flipping.  Nice!

I've owned a home inspection company since 2004 in Myrtle Beach, SC and I'm

finally taking the plunge into REI. Truth is, I wanted to be a Realtor back in 2004,

but since I was in construction for years I thought it easier to start in the home

inspection field, THEN get my real estate license.

However, after seeing what buyer's agents did, I thought real estate wasn't for

me.  So 14 years later, I've come full circle and I earnestly want to do my 1st

flip before December 31st, 2018.

Looking forward to learning, connecting and applying what I learn here.

Cheers!

Shane
