Alright, here's one where our seniors can spread some wisdom to all us newbies. Especially on your first few deals, how do you balance taking on a "doable" project, versus your pride? How does one avoid getting over their head with a project that they're not qualified for simply because they think, "I can do/fix that?"

Thanks for the reply, I was basing it off a rough scale provider by another flipper, but he works out of Vegas, so not quite comparable.
$30 per sqft for general up to $60 per sqft for more overhaul jobs.
i was just hoping people familiar with the area might have a better grasp of what a scale like that might look like here.

Hello,
I may have come across a deal in the wider Pittsburgh surrounding area. It is a foreclosure for a good price, but it needs some work and this is my first time.
To help me run numbers, is anyone familiar enough to give me a rough cost per square foot for rehabbing/renovating in the outlying Pittsburgh areas? This house runs the chance of being a gut, but if I do it, I'd like to try it as a live and flip, so some upgrades could be stretched across about two years.
I'm weighing this versus a duplex further south and would appreciate some help from those who have worked in the area.
Also, any tips for getting comparable numbers? Right now I'm just looking at what Realtor offers, but I know I could have better data.
Thanks,
@Mike Paolucci, @Aaron Zimmerman
What is advice you would give on networking? I really have no experience in it and would appreciate suggestions and/or advice.
Good evening, I'm new to the site and taking a jump. I'm a soon to be married young investor in the Southwestern PA area. I'm new to this and excited to learn wisdom and gain advice from those who came before. I'm hoping to jump into the market soon with either a live and flip or house-hack and I want to learn in the meantime.
What's the best advice you'd give to a newbie, besides "Start"?
