@Dorothy

This sounds good and I have to take a look at my calendar, but hopefully I can make it since this sounds like it should be educational.

One thing: I tried going to the facebook event via the url you provided, but I am getting a "page unavailable" error from facebook. I don't *think* it's something on my end so I thought I would say so in case there is a problem with the url.

I haven't been to Bicycle Cafe before, so I've got questions for those of you who have:

1. What is the parking situation like? Is there a lot, street parking, garage?

2. I saw in the first post that there are happy hour drink specials, is Bicycle Cafe a bar or would they have food to order as well? I am trying to determine if I should head up right after work or instead grab a bite to eat first since it will be dinnertime.

Thanks!

I'm answering the call for ladies to outnumber guys as well - I'm excited to meet people in the area and get some initial networking in!

Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it and it helps build my confidence to move forward on this to be done with that condo.

@Andrew Taylor The "boneyard" idea doesn't help me with the condo with that whole not being local anymore thing (as you noted), but I am certainly tucking away that nugget of advice for later real estate endeavours. Thanks!

Good evening. I couldn't find someplace that was clearly where this ought to be posted, and so I am hoping in this subforum was a reasonable choice.

I am pretty new around the BP forums and so far have been working on educating myself and figuring out what I think is the path I want to take. Before I can dive into in REI future, I need to take care of the fact that I still own a small condo in Houston that I had been DIYing renovations on before I got a new job and needed to move. All it really needs to finish it out at this point is countertops and a backsplash, but so far I have found that trying to figure that out long distance (I live in Colorado now) is a bit stressful.

For those of you who have been fixing up real estate in Houston, including kitchens, is there anyone you would recommend (or absolutely not recommend, so that I don't make a poor decision) for countertops? It is a small kitchen so I would like to do a granite, I think, though I would like to look at my options and see if even in a smaller kitchen the price is a bit more than I'm willing to put into a space that I am not confident I will get the money back out of.

Thank you all in advance for any recommendations and warnings, I am still quite new to the real estate thing and appreciate you sharing your local knowledge.

@Bill S. Absolutely. It's a non-ideal situation that I will be remedying soon so I can put my money to work. In my area, similar units in my complex were selling for far *more* after oil prices started to tank where prices had been pretty flat for the several years leading up to that. So really right now I'm thankful that sales prices are looking better than they did a year/year and a half ago, I could be in a worse situation for sure. But soon I will get out of the situation completely and can move forward.

@Bill S. I agree, I do need to get the condo gone. Thankfully it's not in an area where the oil market is going to cause troubles selling it, it's in the area of the medical center so the complex and a lot of the neighboring complexes have many medical students, doctors, nurses, etc. rather than people in the O&G industry who are less apt to be looking to buy at the moment.

Hello everyone!

I am new (obviously) and looking to get involved in real estate investing as I'm sure you could guess. In particular, I think I am most interested in fix & flip or buy and hold, but for the moment I am more focused on researching and educating myself so I can better determine what is the best fit for me.

When I say that I am a newbie at this, I very much mean it. My real estate experience is limited to having purchased a condo in Houston that I lived in for 6 years and fixed up/updated a bit toward the end of my tenure there. I haven't sold it yet as the last project is currently incomplete, but I will have that taken care of in the coming months to free me of that tie and let me really delve into real estate here in Colorado. I realize that I could do something here while I still have that property, but personally I think that would be a bad idea for me. For me, it would be better to actually complete the project and get that property sold before allowing myself something new. As I get more experience, maybe multi-tasking projects will work for me, but I have to start small and build up to that.

I look forward to making connections and making use of the vast knowledge base of BiggerPockets and its community.
