My spouse feels that I am leaning too heavily toward the older home and being distracted by vaulted ceilings and double sided fireplaces and vinyl fenced yard and upgraded kitchen furnishings where she is looking primarily at new with no undetected wear and having a full home warranty.

But I'm very careful to check the recalls on Ikea's dressers -- there have been incidents where children have been injured or died when a dresser they were climbing fell on them.Other reasons that I have not rented to prospective tenants with children is due to the hazards of a fireplace (woodburning -- obvious hazards;  gas fireplace -- can be burned if touching the hot glass; electric fireplace -- with the one in my personal residence, you need to be very careful when removing the glass, as it shatters very easily.)

They also get other gifts from time to time, such as: house plant, flower basket, flower bowl, bedding plant, door mat, fireplace log, professional carpet cleaning of traffic areas (for long term tenants every 5 years).We do not do rent concessions.

The newer ones were more modern with integral garages, central air and fireplaces, that the 1890 properties lacked.

So, I had electric and wood heat.Not sure if you can still burn wood where you are, but you could put in a simple hearth and a wood heater with a glass front, so it would double as a fireplace.

, probably not all of them do and certainly not the older ones (mine was about 8 years old).Also, even if you don;t have any gas appliances or fireplaces, you will still need a detector if you have an attached garage.

The final kicker was, as they were leaving, the original guy mentioned that he really liked the fireplace mantel because his 70 inch TV would fit up there very nicely....no shower, no central air but a big screen TV.I thought I had discouraged them enough when I told them that each would have to pay the screening fee to check credit/criminal history but I'll be darned if they didn't call back four days later saying they had the applications (I had to provide them several) all filled out.
