Read the book/watch the movie "The Big Short" and you'll see that only 1% of 1% of 1% of 1% had both the ability both to PREDICT and TAKE ADVANTAGE of the 2009 Recession.Frankly, I find all this talk of 2020 Recession to be very counter productive.  

@Stephan Kraus after reading this entire thread and then re-reading so I could understand all the different scenarios I feel like the power just cut off a the climax of the movie.

Not only following fads whether it's getting a Dalmatian or Husky because of a movie or TV show, and it just sounded cool, but perpetuating the fashionable fear thing to be afraid of.

Only in America.I bought  a foreclosure in Oregon it was a high end house 700k or so.. on a private lake.. when I got into it.. they just left everything it was a like a movie set all set up for adult films and there were plenty left.. not your normal foreclosure you walk into and its just full of junk.. 

The reason you keep hearing references to controlling spending is because of simple math:Income-expenses=savingsSavings is what builds net worth, through investing.People say increase income, but no matter how high your income, if your spending is greater, you will go deeper in debt.That is why there are movie stars, athletes and lottery winners who go bankrupt.

Everything from dinner to movies is too expensive (in my opinion) in SS anyways
