I do a version of the same thing Chris is talking about except I contact an agent and get a list of all of the homes that have sold in the past 6 months that were either rentals or foreclosures.Trying to sift through every previous sale could be a nightmare in most markets.

Search by owner, first "LLC" then "Inc" then "Corp" - you'll have to sift through a bunch, but it's a pretty good approach and doesn't cost anything.
