The closest I get is when someone says they can't pay and we get into a discussion on why they  have to wait for a check to pay the rent when they should have some reserves.

The closest I’ve heard to this being the truth was some large property manager on a podcast was talking about having 80% rent paid on the first (85% by the first was normal) but they were around 95% by the 5th when late penalties kicked in (97%) was normal.

Another option would be to move the stove and fridge (same configuration with stove closest to sink but on the 12 foot wall, fridge to the left of it, and then change out the cabinets at the end of that wall into one big pantry with shelves for food items.
