We do it mostly for Fair Housing reasons like @Matthew Irish-Jones. 

However, over time, I think something got lost in translation during the quest for survival and some have just focussed on self, bringing to fruition the me-me-me culture. 

I would love to get more involved and learn about this culture.

What would be financial factors, specific to the Irish real estate market, that I should take into consideration (for example, I found out rental income is heavily taxed in Ireland) ?

Yes my Banker and I have been all over.. when I launched in Detroit I took him a long.. as a lifelong Porlander it was a culture shock to say the least.. we pull into the PM's office south of 8 mile.. parking area is fenced in with razor wire.. 

It's never really had much in the way of culture though.

Fountain Square now has a brewery, ice cream shop, multiple music venues, art museum, the cultural trail, etc, etc...

Also, most who operate within the section 8 space who are successful understand the community, culture and treat their tenant base with mutual respect.
