Look into restoring it.

Most decent sized cities have a ReStore that is run by habitat for humanity.

There is a severe lack of supply when it comes to affordable housing.It’s remarkable to see how it can transform someone who is homeless and being able to help restore their dignity has been a spiritual return that is “priceless”.I’d like to see the VA do more community outreach at local REI meet ups.

We use Habitat for Humanity Restore stores almost exclusively.  

Using the 4 plex example, you live in one unit, rent out the rest. 

I have storm windows and the 100 year old wood can be restored.  

This is in a historical district so I have to restore the porch to original standards. 

It might also help to shop at a place like a Habitat ReStore - they often have hardware that came out of older houses, so it's a little more likely to find a match there.
