You are now in business with someone who may not be as friendly or sophisticated. 

As of a few years ago it was making sense for sophisticated investors to buy class b not class c mfh apartments because the price per Sf was not much different and you get a much better asset.

If you only sell a house once every 10 years, then why care about how you behave towards others or their perception of you.

Also even when Josh was here he moved things towards the newbies and so many of the more sophisticated got tired of the same questions and have stopped contributing. 

Again, talking about it would quash these false beliefs and help improve perceptions.

Maybe I have not reached that level of sophistication in my life where I find questions that people ask to tacky or offensive.

These guys are not a couple of yahoos, these are people who have put more time into sales and brainwashing than most people put into their real estate business - extremely sophisticated stuff that a regular Joe might not even realize is being done to them.

If you're serious in real estate, I'd expect traditional institutions to place a premium on higher education and the sophistication of the person trying to facilitate the deal.Had the original poster said something like, 'I work for a developer and want to take my career to the next level,' then I'd suggest completion of higher education.

You have to understand "perception" and what that means.
