Like @Brooks Rembert said, learning from somebody who's already gone through the process and survived a few cycles is worth the price of admission.

I bet I can find more where this doesn't apply than can be found where it does apply.My suggestion would be to stop looking for a shortcut that, by your own admission, isn't a substitute for analysis. 

The group is very active and can be worth the price of admission in terms of networking and JV opportunities.If it sounds simple that's because it is.
