Inspection before finding out rehab costs?

Hey I'm new to the real estate world. When I'm going to look at a house, do I need to get the inspector to go with me? Is he the one who gives me the stuff that needs to be fixed and then I get a contractor to give me quotes on how much it costs? Do I need to get an inspector at all? Thanks for the help

Casey:

Usually you get an inspection after you are under contract on the property.  And, yes, you should get one.   An inspector, ethically, cannot recommend contractors to do the work.  However, they may be able to give you a rough idea of costs.

If your inspector finds any major flaws, go get quotes before your inspection period ends.  Also, if you plan any major upgrades, walk the property with your contractor to zero in on those costs.
