Is it normal for a PM to ask for your social security number?

Is it normal for a PM to ask for your social security number? They said often times they are required to provide either an EIN or a SSN to some utility companies. They also said they may need it when processing other forms or registrations.

It's mandatory. They need an IRS Form W-9 on file and each year they should submit an IRS Form 1099 to the IRS and a copy to you.

P.S. Did you ask your PM about this? If you did and they were unable to explain it, you should find a new PM. If you didn't ask them, I recommend you get in the habit of going to them first since you are pyaing them for their services. If they have half a clue, they could explain this to you in less time than it took you to type the question and it demonstrates their competency.
