Rejecting applicant based on income

Hello - I am about to reject a tenant based on income (applicant's income is 1.8x rent). My listing says 3x rent required.  I want to to be as polite as possible - if I say "unfortunately you don't qualify based on income," would that sound too rude?

You don't need AI, you don't need a long letter, and you don't need to worry about hurting someone's feelings.

"I'm sorry, but your income does not meet our requirement of three times the monthly rent. Thank you for applying."

This is a business. If you go to the grocery store to buy a $4 gallon of milk and only have $2, nobody apologizes to you. They set a price based on market demand and you can't afford it, so you can't buy it. It's just business.
