Landlord question - rekey for new tenants?

Hello everyone,

Somewhat new to the landlord business and am looking forward to getting some feedback from more experienced professionals.  Recently a new applicant for one of our units asked if the landlord would rekey the front door and mailbox.  Is this customary, and should the landlord be expected to pay for the rekey service?  Thank you for your time!!

Sincerely,

Jason

I'd love to get some feedback on this idea. We are trying to make our business as remote friendly as possible. Keys have been a sticking point. I wanted to get electronic keypads, but lack of internet in SFR and cost have been a roadblock. We've been using kwikset smartkey. I was wondering about the feasibility of having a few spare kwikset tools/sets in the home, leaving the original key in the lockbox, then talking the tenants through the process of rekeying the house themselves on movein (via zoom or phone), then having them snail mail us a spare key. Thoughts anyone?

Ty,
