Buying title insurance a year later?

Joshua Corwin
Posted

I purchased a property in cash about 1 year ago, and never bought title insurance.

1) Should I try to purchase it now?

2) How can I go about purchasing it? It does not seem easy to find insurance companies that sell it

Yes, you can likely still purchase owners title insurance. Whoever issues the policy will conduct a full search, as if you were currently purchasing. They’ll also be on full alert as to why you are attempting to do this after acquisition.

If there is an existing title problem, buying title insurance after closing isn’t the solution ... that loss would be excluded from coverage.
