I’ve been to a few so far that left a lot to be desired. I attended two today through meetup.com ... the morning meeting the host didn’t show and the evening meeting was setup in a busy hotel cocktail bar. Needless to say I left after about 5 minutes of shouting about nothing... nothing against them I guess, as I imagine it takes a lot to run one, and of course the willingness to do so.

That said, no use complaining so I will be starting my own meetup in a quiet location for general real estate discussion. It will be in Belmont, so anybody from Gastonia, Charlotte, cramerton, Lowell, Belmont, Stanley, Mount Holly, Shelby, concord, kannapolis, rock hill, tega cay, and any surrounding Charlotte metro is welcome.

I’m posting this because It’s becoming apparent to me what successful meetings are not, so I’m looking for advice from the forum on what a successful meeting is. How do I go about making this a meeting to provide value for people who take time to attend?

Any tips, strategies, structure is welcome. And of course anybody interested in a weekly or monthly meeting to discuss general REÍ strategies and develop this group with me please feel free to send me a message.

This answer will piss some folks off an or upset others but F it I have an enough of a back and most people in this market know who I am. First and foremost what are the meeting truly about . Networking which there are a few great ones in Charlotte. Matter of Fact I know of one small group less then 8 folks invitation only. Must be a mover and shaker to be involved. I think everyone there is awesome but I am lazy and don't like to drive to Charlotte in the am ( traffic sucks)I know a few good folks who run the meeting. Then all of a sudden they have speakers teaching folks who have less the 1 -3 experience. Yet they teaching other folks how to be in this business. Now on the flip side keep in mind what most groups are trying to accomplish .Ahhh the sales pitch or some groups. Buy tapes of **** properties and sell them off to the new suckers who don't have a clue. Write a book start a podcast and sell to the new sheep. Then look like golden gods to these folks at first. Now for me I used to speak here locally, radio shows on the west coast, seminars in the USA and international countries. So for me networking is super important. The stuff I am doing now very few folks at the meeting would be able to help. Not saying I should not go but there are levels in this business. So again most of these meeting have hidden agendas not all. There are some legit groups here in our market. Just far and few in between my friend.

Networking super important , building teams , knowing numbers, understanding the market, timing in the market. Alot of this can be learned from the groups. So it is not a wast of time but then again what are you trying to accomplish.

Sincerely
Alex
