Joseph,

The next BP networking event neaeby is on Jan 4 in NYC.  Highly recommended.  This business is all about relationships and bringing value to whomever you engage with.  Bottom line... you need to be ready and commited.  If you haven't, I suggest you pay special attention to Podcast #200.  Josh and Brandon did a great job summarizing the steps to start a successful real estate investing business.

Track the market, don't rush, don't overpay, stay true to your criteria.

Best of luck!!

Stephen,

I lived in Raleigh several years ago and find the area delightful to live and raise a family.  There is a very large development going on now called Chatham Park.  I suggest you follow their plans.  They are a large developer and chances are they will pace the rate of construction depending on the economic outlook.  Best wishes!!

Scott,

Some of the great real estate dynasties have dominated markets and left a mark in their city by doing what you intend to do.  Expanding horizontally is also my ultimate goal, by integrating the construction, property management and asset management as separate companies, managed under one umbrella company.

I plan to focus in Northern NJ, but would love to connect with an experienced people like you.

Cheers and good luck in your endeavor!!

Fasil,

Your goal was to have your first property by the Spring of 2015.  Time flies.  Where you able to achieve your goal, and if so, have you been able to keep replicating in your areas of work?  I am also interested in small multifamilies in the Clifton, Nutley, Montclair areas.

Corey,

I believe the areas you are targetting have major potention in the long term.  As NYC keeps growing, neighboring cities will grow as well as support hubs.  State and federal agencies already have major infrastructure overhauls under review that are intended to support the growth of those particular areas.

Good luck!

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to BP.  You will find an unbelievable wealth of information on this site that will propel you to where you want to be, if you are ready.  I am also just getting started and find it amazing how so many members are willing to help you reach your goals.  Regarding the real estate license, I belive it is great tool, but you should clarify to yourself to what extent you plan to use it and how much time you are willing to put into the day to day dealings of a real estate agent.  You can also consider establishing close relationships with real estate agents in your awas of work.  I know ot is not easy, but with the help of the BP network, I'm sure it is more efficient.

I live in Clifton, NJ and focus primarily in Passaic and Essex counties.

Fel free to cantact me.  I'd be glad to help in any way I can and to share experiences.

Best wishes!!

My theory is that port cities will have sustained growth over time in particular due to the increased capacity by the Panama canal.  Like John said, demographic trends will help you choose.

@Adam Anderson, thanks for the  welcome.  I can definitely relate with you!!  I lived in FL and NC as well.  I thing they are great markets as well and would like to invest in some of their markets in the future.   Your area of expertise from the investor perspective must be critical for beginning investors.  I'll be sure to rwach out to you.

Michael and Dave,  thanks for the welcome.  I'll be sure to check out all possible resources in the site.

Anthony, thanks for the welcome.  My wife, and I are working together to make this dream a reality.  What I didn't mention is that she became a real estate agent last year to get an "insider" view of the factors going into real estate transactions, including the sometimes unforgiving taxes.  I would be great to meet up in the near future to discuss how we can help each other reach our goals!!
