Welcome to BP, I'm a new RE investor as well. I live in Madison, but I do plan on investing in beach rental in 2 - 3 years. Like @Mark Nolan said the BP books are a good place to start as well as the podcasts. I went to my first REIA meeting this month, so if you're ever in the area, MCREIA is good for meeting people.

Madison County real estate investors association(MCREIA) is $20 a meeting or $195 a year. They meet once a month, the next meeting is Tuesday Feb. 7th. Tennessee Real Estate Investors meet every 4th Monday plus it's free. Those are the only ones I know of at the moment. I'm new and have only been to one MCREIA meeting.
