Hi @Tyler Daigler a home with Lake Rights is preferred if you are going to be using it for personal use. There really isn't a bad area IMO. However there are bad neighbors, especially if you are going to be renting it out .... a forewarning the locals and the ALA (committee responsible for the Lake) hate tourism. They hate STRs. They are doing everything in their power to restrict access to the Lake for anyone other than homeowners. They restricted guest passes last year and now they are no longer allowing access to anyone other than immediate family. They HATE us! Like all caps, no joke ..  our rental has performed well despite all of this but Covid may be responsible for some inflation in demand. with prices rising so fast in that area it's also getting much harder to find a fixer. We bought our A frame for 320k in Feb 2020 and put about 100k into reno and value is around 550k now. We cash flow but if we bought for in the 500ks I think that would be hard to do. Don't mean to be a debbie downer but if you are planning to rent it out would consider all the surrounding areas as well (Running Springs, Twin Peaks, etc). If you plan to live there and are unsure of renting it out, then you have less to worry about! It's a beautiful area and many make it their FT residence. Hope this helps!

We are shopping for lenders for an Investment property in CA. We've spoken to Rocket Mortgage and Better.com both have high points or high rates. Are there any good alternatives? Excellent credit, 20% down, high income.

Looking for a Conventional lender for an Investment property. Rocket Mortgage came recommended. However their “banker” seems very inexperienced. They did a hard credit pull when asked they don’t as we were just shopping for rates. And a few other red flags. Their quoted rate was 3.5 with 2 points and then she kept flip flopping on how many points they charge. Anyone else go through them for your Investment properties? Any other bank lender recommendations?

Thanks @Michael Baum I have searched but haven't seen any posts (yet) with numbers from STR owners in the JT/Yucca area. I am sure they are there. I have been thru the 1st 10 pages or so with various search terms. Perhaps I am not doing my searches correctly:) will keep looking

Anyone willing to share their P&L/numbers for the Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley area? We have an STR doing very well and looking at other markets to expand into. We've narrowed it down to a handful of markets at this point.

We got ours during COVID so the inspection was a breeze as they only did an exterior walk through. Things have likely changed now but the interior Inspection is the hardest part from what I’ve heard. The requirements though are easy to meet. The county may also be backlogged with staffing shortages so just factor that in when applying and your timeline.

We have an STR permit in San Bernardino County for Lake Arrowhead. Was a very smooth process.
