@Noah G. Miller The Twin Cities has lots of groups to attend. To echo the other comment, can you expand upon what you’re looking to accomplish. That will help us in messaging you information. Is it just wholesaling or are you looking for other real estate groups?

@Austin Jacobus Lots of great thoughts here already and I agree with looking into both. Can I ask where you get the $20,000 number? What school will you be attending that is not more expensive? Is that just for tuition? If you’re uncomfortable answering any of that feel free to ignore my comment, I’m just curious as a fellow Twin Cities individual.

@Pancham G. Thank you for posting this. It is great to hear from people who have achieved what I want to achieve. Hopefully one day I will make a similar post.

@Troy Warling Welcome to BP from another Twin Cities investor. (And the others who have keyword alerts for Minneapolis, etc) You have a good goal and a great reason for becoming a real estate investor. Hopefully I see you at one of the meetings.

@Matt Schafer I’m staying home tonight. Too difficult to get out right now with a 2 week old baby at home. I will be going to others though as I try to make 8 real estate meetings a month. This month I will not meet that goal.

@Brya Freeland single family home is 1 unit. The number of bedrooms does not matter in relation to the term.

@Matt Schafer I didn’t even realize there was a waitlist. I was just planning on registering that day if I really am going and then showing up. I just added myself to the waitlist.

@Brya Freeland If a person owns a duplex, a triplex and an apartment complex that has 10 apartments in the complex they have 15 units. 2 + 3 + 10 = 15.

Units are somewhat easier to say to show how “big” an investor is. For example, I own 3 rental properties, but they are small properties. 2 condos and a 4-plex for a total of 6 units. But if someone owns 2 large apartment buildings they might have 150 units. Clearly they are much bigger than I am even though I own 3 properties and they own 2.

@Matt Schafer Welcome to BP from another Twin Cities person. I’m sure Tim is getting you great information as he also did for me. Come join the meetups. Hopefully I will see you at one. There is one tomorrow that I’m hoping to make, but no promises as we have a 2 week old at home.

@Chase A. I don’t have this as a goal but I will answer anyways. If I was just starting out and wanted to get rich somewhat quick I would go into a sales role and work my @$$ off towards a high income. I would also house hack a 4-plex, if I could find financing. After 2 years at that 4-plex I would hopefully be able to purchase another 4-plex to also house hack.

Note that my answer includes the knowledge that I would not be the best in IT or Engineering for a high salary there. I could also consider a trade as others have mentioned. I would consider flipping but I don’t feel that this market is ideal for that right now.
