@Brad Smith

Welcome, I too am an electrician looking to the real estate world of investing. Very great resources here and I absolutely love the podcasts and webinars available. Hope you get the education you are seeking. I am from the Davis County area, best of luck and don't hesitate to reach out to those who really know the business, because most here are definitely eager to help.

Hello everyone, my name is Derek Caldwell. I have some questions on how I need to structure myself to begin investing in the market. I am in Utah and was wondering what critical things I need to have in place before starting.

1: I have heard about starting an LLC, is this the first thing recommended before starting the investment process?

2: I assume along with the LLC that I would also need to get a business license within the state or states that I am planning on investing in, if so, is this just a standard business license?

3: At what point would I need to contact an attorney and/or an accountant for my investments, I want to cover myself but also not spend excess money?

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds, I am sorry if these have been asked before in some older posts, just didn't find specific answers.

@Kevin Powell

Welcome Kevin, I am from Kaysville. Welcome to BP, this is a great community to learn about flips, wholeselling, buy and holds or just about anything else to do with real estate.. Take advantage of the podcasts and webinars, they are great. Also the forums go in depth about specific areas of interest. Also you can put in keywords and get emails regarding your keywords. For instance I use "Utah" so anytime Utah is mentioned it will alert me. Best of luck and ask questions often, especially to those with the experience!

@William Hochstedler

Thanks for the info, looking forward to learn the industry.

@Jaden Cook

Welcome, I am new myself. Great to see and meet fellow Utahns. The podcasts are wonderful, I just can't get enough of them. Webinars are also a great resource along with the Calculators available to help to see if you have a possible "good deal". Best of luck!

Welcome, I am also a newbie and am from Kaysville, Utah best of luck. Sort through all of the great resources of information is a great place to start.

Curious about the reia's in Utah. I am in Davis County and was wondering if there is a cost to attend these meetings and/or if you need to be an agent or current investor to attend or if it's open to anyone. I really want to learn as much as I can, including any meet and greet type of situation once I am back in Utah, hopefully in the next month or two.

Yes for now I will continue electrical Aaron, until I can get to where I want to be. I live in Kaysville and would be willing to invest just about anywhere in Utah.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, definitely hope to get involved quickly. I am from Kaysville, but open to pretty much anywhere on the Wasatch front, although I am currently working in California. Hopefully will be back in Utah soon to look at options, thanks again!

My name is Derek Caldwell and I am seeking information on real estate, especially flipping houses and rental properties. My father and brother have both succeeded in flipping and single family rentals on a small scale. Looking for as much information as possible to learn and grow.  Ultimate goal would be to do this full time at some point, I am a hands on guy who has spent my adult life in construction, currently as an electrician for the last 16 years. I enjoy learning and seeing something transformed into more. I am also looking for a mentor preferably in Utah that can help show me the ropes on getting started. I am listening to podcasts and searching forums and hopefully will continue to gain additional knowledge to the point I can jump in feet first.
