Post: Abandoned Property and Finding the Owner in NJ

Hey All,

Spotted an abandoned property on the Jersey (NJ) shore and I was wondering the best way to find & contact the owner to scout a potential deal. It has a REMAX sign up but when I called and inquired about it, it seems as if it is now unlisted. Can't find it on REMAX website either.

What's the best way to go about contacting the owner? Direct Mail? How do I find the owner's address? Newbie here and looking for any wisdom anyone is willing to offer. Thanks in advance!!

- Nick

I will be attending....sounds great, looking forward to it!

Hey everyone,

My name is Nick and I'm as green as they get when it comes to real estate investing. I'm 31 years old, working and living in New Jersey (Union City to be exact, on the border of Union City, Hoboken, and Jersey City). I'm an IT professional at a large insurance company in the area as my regular 9-5, which I do enjoy very much. I have started to accumulate some discretionary cash from my job, and I would like to learn about real estate as a potential investment.

I've joined the community in attempt to learn more about real estate investing. I found out about BiggerPockets from an old fashioned internet search, and after some quick browsing and a few podcasts (Thanks @Joshua Dorkin!) I was instantly turned on to the site. The extent of my knowledge of real estate is purely from the home buying process I went through when I purchased the NJ co-op apartment in which I currently live. I'm interested in finding a property or two to invest in a buy-and-hold type type situation, which will yield residual income and eventually greater financial independence. Who knows after that....I have been looking at the Jersey City Heights / Union City area (the area I'm most familiar with) as well as parts of the Jersey Shore. I'm not convinced NJ is the best buyers market at this time - still trying to put some numbers together. I have also been looking at the Las Vegas area, as a personal friend of mine is in that area and has told me there are some good deals there.

Please reach out to me if you have any insight into the North Jersey, Jersey Shore, or Las Vegas real estate markets.....or if you are just from one of these areas and looking to connect. I'll take any and all real estate friends that I can get right now! Looking forward to interacting with all of you.

Best,

Nick I
