@Thomas S. thanks for the feedback. My current situation is quite frugal. My monthly expenses total around 1300 and allows me to currently save 2k/mo while putting my son through college. Aside from capex type expenditures I’d be remodeling my home myself to do exactly that. I realize that’s dependent on the market maintaining as well. And if it does maintain I’d have the HELOC and any additional savings I’m not dead set on any particular approach and I’m not ruling out flipping my first deal either. Would it be more wise to continue saving before I jump in? My gut says dive in and get started.

Many parts of the country are suffering from an affordable housing crisis. As housing investors, what roles do you play in solving this issue? What types of approaches have you and/or your communities taken to improve on this problem that was still a profitable proposition?

I have yet to buy my first property. I have finally pulled myself out of debt, have a great credit score with under 10k to use and still saving. I have lofty goals to own 50 units in the next 10 years by the tIme I’m 50. I’ve also lived in apartments my entire adult life and don’t want my first property to be a live in duplex or something. I’d like to buy my first home, fix it up and refinance. Then use that refi towards my next purchase. Has anyone else done something similar or any advice on this method?

I tried searching it on the forums and it pulled up zero results. Does anybody have any experience with riba free, or interest free, financing? It’s an Islamic form of banking.

@Bruce Runn yeah I watched a Facebook live video of a good bit of it.  That's what it looked like to me.   A lot of folks seem to think that the plan is legislation or something.  It's just a guideline basically which is why they're asking for input.   Plus I don't think the SFHers are aware of whats already allowed in their neighborhoods.  There did seem to be some landlords with legitimate concerns.   The city's growing.  The people need to live somewhere.

The city has their 20yr master plan up right now and looking for ideas and suggestions on all of these issues.  Look for housing and find the policies for it, then you can leave comments for them.  Check it out here https://minneapolis2040.com/

Wow! Trying to find a way to evict a grandmother watching her grandchildren. Unbelievable. I think I’d talk with a therapist before you do anything else.

Great stories folks. Hearing that part of the story makes it much more realistic as to what it takes and what to expect.
