And a follow up question: if it is an old water well, what is the best way to dispose of it (fill it with dirt, concrete, just cover it, other?

Here is a small riddle I recently acquired along with a property. It used to be completely hidden underneath an extensive poison ivy carpet and obviously hasn't been touched in years. Does anyone recognize this as an old water well or something else? There does seem to be a pump attached that is connected to an electric cable running underground in the direction of the property which is about 100feet away. It's a circular hole about 20inches in diameter and is currently full of water. I'm a bit thrown by the large size of the PVC piping (2 inch at least), so perhaps it's not what I think?
Any thoughts welcome!

Probably most people on this board have experiences such as these, leaving them scratch their heads. Last year, I negotiated for 6 months on a property (asking price 190k - my best offer was around 168k). Including not one, but two "best and final" calls. Never got under contract. Now, according to tax records, I find out that it eventually sold to someone else for 78k - yep, almost 100k below my best offer (and no, my offer did not have any weird conditions attached - in fact it was an all-cash offer, so not even financing clause)! Now, THAT's fishy! Probably nothing illegal though - seller can do what they wish. Me: moving on!

I have a question for the construction-and-repair inclined in the BP community: I'm contemplating the property shown below. The style looks very odd to me and in fact, as one might guess, there are water intrusion problems around all the windows (upstairs and downstairs). Is this simply a design/architectural flaw or is there a solution to this? Are there any window options available that can actually deal with the fact that basically there is no roof (or at least no overhang) to protect against the elements?

Thanks@George C.
- Historically, I'm not aware of any incidents where nat gas supplies were interrupted around here (doesn't it couldn't happen, of course). This is part of the reason why I'm considering a triple fuel generator. LP, Nat gas, and gasoline.

I'm considering the purchase of a backup power generator (we are in the land of the occasional tornado, hurricane and ice storm here and outages aren't uncommon). I have picked a portable tri-fuel model which I intend to run mostly on natural gas. I have a gas-line nearby to where I will want to place the generator but here is the question. What I would like to install is a quick-release gas fitting that can snap on the generator when needed. Are there any codes/safety concerns to consider when tapping into an existing line (no, I would NOT do this myself - I would hire a pro)? I assume there would need to be a shut-off valve installed to turn off the quick-release line independently? Anything else?

@Stacey Manley you could make the purchase contingent on receiving it unoccupied (in other words, let the seller deal with removing the tenant). If you finance the purchase, your lender may insist on this as a condition of lending.
As far as convincing a person who has lived in the house rent free for 8 years to either move out or pay market rent: good luck with that! It's possible, but I would not like my odds in that scenario. I don't know about Nebraska, but in some states, this could drag on for a very, very long time....

@Derek B. Hook up with @Karen Rittenhouse She is in Greensboro and she was on one of the early BP podcasts. I recommend her books but if you have a chance to work with her directly, don't miss out!
