Sometimes, yes. If you are going to carry a gun: 1) make sure you're doing it legally (i.e. have a carry permit), 2) bring a friend or associate with you, so if you have to use it you have a witness to testify that it was justified.

Personally, I'd be hesitant to buy an investment property in CA due to: 1) the high taxes; 2) where we are at in the real estate market cycle; and 3) pro-tenant eviction laws.
