@Lauren Stiver there is a great group called MAREI that has a lot of folks there in the KC area.  Check that out and also make sure you are speaking directly with the investors who have worked with those contractors, more than one. Understand how the process with that contractor works for bid, payments, scope of work, change orders. Be real clear in what you are looking for and how you are wanting the project to come out.
