Florida's LLC's do not pay a state tax in Florida so you might want to consider reopening a new one and starting fresh.

You don't even have to have a LLC in the State you are going to be living and there are other options, including anonymous ones, in states like Wyoming, Texas or even Nevada that might be attractive to you depending on what you are planning on doing with your business.

It depends on if you have a S Corp or LLC or are doing business as a sole proprietor.

One thing you do not want to do is comingle. If you are doing that, I would advise stopping that right away. So many clients of ours admit to using their LLC or personal credit cards to pay a variety of expenses and bills, trying to code them all as straight business expenses then asking their tax person to sort that out later. If you work from home, you are only allowed to claim a portion of bills that directly correlate to the square footage of your home office space and certain restrictions apply.

Have you always been someone who’s been considered “an independent thinker?” Most investors and entrepreneurs are! Just like Steve Jobs, you have a vision and you want it executed correctly while maintaining control.

Leafy Podcast Episode 24: How Highly-Effective People Deal With Disruptions - John Vespasian

Our Leafy Podcast team sat down with John Vespasian, author of Undisrupted: How highly-effective people deal with disruptions, to learn how to prevent disruptions and periods of chaos in life.

John has traveled around the world and visited with numerous experts to create his effective steps on adopting habits that are immune to distractions. He tells us that over time disruptions have changed (in the middle-ages there were many religions forming, causing distraction and disruption, in the 1900s there were many newspapers and stories that were distracting, and now we have smartphones and social media) but the power to overcome these obstacles has philosophically remained the same.

John presents real-life lessons that massively increase your ability to succeed in the face of disruptions. Click the link below to give it a listen!

I love this post so much!  Congrats and I completely love that you mentioned the time with family as just as important as the end goal - sometimes the journey makes it all so worthwhile!!

I don't agree that impeachment will have no effect at all, but I doubt it will be in any of the ways most think.   The best insurance against ill effects is to do your due diligence now and have enough diversity to ride the wave of change.   This is true of any changes except an apocalyptic asteroid hitting the earth.   Fortunes are made in times of great struggle just as they are in times of relative stagnation so just use common sense.   This sounds easier than it is because you have to be aware of the current climate & laws but not to the point you let "what if" scenarios based in heavy part on the ratings draw of panic / fear headlines.   I'm a big advocate of getting one's ducks in order now in terms of asset protection, your business structures, your retirement & your estate sooner rather than later - so that you are prepared way before something might happen.

@Josh LaRose  You're smart to want to get a structure set up to limit your liability and to help with tax write-offs, the right structure (if anonymous) can also be a lawsuit preventative.

I also highly agree with @Eamonn McElroy that I would question why a C-Corp is what they suggest starting with? With our investors, we've found an LLC is more than adequate for typical wholesaling though I also recommend looking into anonymity and making sure that the structure makes sense with the long-range plans you have for your real estate business in the future.

NY is not the easiest or cheapest state to incorporate, and we don't recommend that except for a certain set of circumstances.  I'd get a second opinion - but one thing I do agree on is getting a structure in place sooner rather than later.  If you are sued, it's too late to do anything and you run a real risk of negative consequences with both your credit and having personal assets attached.

That’s right, we said it. Tax prep season is upon us, and many entrepreneurs and investors are at risk.

Did you know that if you’re a real estate investor you have a 95% chance of being sued within the next 25 years? We don’t know about you, but to us, that sounds pretty scary!

If you have properties besides your personal residence that is in your name, or if you sign contracts, check, and pay contractors with your name. These factors and many others can contribute to you being at risk.

Don’t have your real estate tied up in probate or lose out on the powerful tax benefits that are available to real estate investors.

Here at Leafy Legal Services, we are experts who make sure that your assets and future plans are protected with tax strategies that allow you to grow your wealth. Our end-of-the-year tax prep season discount is here, get a personalized in-depth confidential consultation now for only $99.00.
