@Chris Drumm I don't think that's bad at all; as long as you're cash flowing a healthy amount each month, you should be fine. You can always re-finance out of the owner-finance note at some point in the future; usually after 6 or 12 months.

@Mindy Jensen Not your fault, but that's disappointing. That was one of my favorite features that actually made the Pro membership worth paying for. I'd really prefer to be able to ask and answer questions or send referrals privately without having to necessarily be connected to that person as a colleague.

Case in point: occasionally I receive colleague requests with no message attached to it. Previously, I would visit that person's profile and then send them a follow-up message before confirming them as a colleague. Now, I can't communicate with that person to confirm that I actually want to be connected to them.

Another example: someone asking for a referral in the forums. Previously, I could just send them what they're looking for without being connected to them. Now, I have to send it along with a colleague request before I determine whether or not I actually want to be connected to that person.

Again, not your fault but please share this feedback with your colleagues. =o)

Regarding whether or not to use your own name for deals, it would depend on what types of deals you're looking to do right now. I'd recommend seeking the counsel of a CPA and / or attorney to discuss the implications of using a company vs. your name.

In the meantime you can get business cards made that have your name, contact info, and possibly a generic title like "investor" or "real estate investor."

There are lots of active Bigger Pockets members here in Houston. Let us know if we can ever be of assistance!
