After 9/11, Steve saw the need to "course correct" as he did naturally as an airline pilot. All pilots want to find that Smoothe area and keep on course.
His lifelong dream of being an airline pilot was in flux - there was NO safe haven in the corporate world. Especially with the aftermath impact that the attacks on our country felt.
Steve became involved in real estate since 2002. Not just involved...obsessed. He spent a couple years "wholesaling", made money and realized he really just had another JOB. What he wanted was passive income. He found REIAs. He learned from other investors; he sought out mentors. And he found that apartment complexes were "where it was at"! However, the price point for what he could afford was at the lower end...more D class properties. He and his partner, Pete, an IT executive, jumped in...with both feet. And the story just gets better! That's why he wrote his book, "Building an Empire: Failing our Way to Millions".
Steve has a great presentation style - brutally open about his failures (which set him up for HUGE success).
He has weathered 9/11, Hurricane Ike, 2008 Recession, an Oil Bust and Hurricane Harvey (where he was based as a pilot, he lives with his family and owns rental properties). He has survived some big ones! He'll share HOW we can be even Better prepared to weather this storm too!

Steve Matley has over 25 years of experience in leadership and management in multiple industries. His business management and project management experience was cultivated in real estate, land development and construction, involving commercial, institutional, residential and public works projects. He has held positions as a General Building Contractor, a Senior Project Manager for an ENR top 50 rated agency construction management firm and Vice-President of Land Acquisition and Forward Planning for a production homebuilder. In these positions Steve successfully planned and executed numerous projects including educational complexes, high-rises, master planned communities, production homes, custom homes, public works and infrastructure projects. He has been designated as an expert witness in real estate, development and construction related litigation cases- this is just scratching the surface!  Don't miss this one!
