Thank you all so much for the responses.  I really appreciate the information.  Based on my age and the amount in this particular account, it might not be worth it yet.

Again, thank you!!!

I am curious, if you use a self directed IRA in a BRRR strategy, when you refinance the house, can you take some of the proceeds out as cash; or, does it all have to stay in the IRA?

I am reading this thread, albeit a year late, and seeing the same things with our first rental vacation rental property.  I’d love to share a spreadsheet and have you guys looks at it and let me know what I’m missing and the best way to improve our cash flow position I’ve read the next number of years.

Being new to this, and help would be incredibly appreciated.

Colleen McCann thanks so much for all the detail. I would LOVE to pick your brain more on the specific costs associated with this type of rental. We have had rentals before but have been out of the real estate investment business for a few years and never had a beach place. It’s really what we want although, living in Mooresville, we are looking around here too. Happy to buy you lunch one day if you have the time. Thanks again.

My wife and I are VERY interested in purchasing a rental property in the North Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina.  We have looked a lot, have done some due diligence and are ready to purchase.  We are looking for a 3/2 condo on the beach in the <$250k range.

This condo would definitely be rented, and we believe we would manage it as a VRBO.  We would also use it as a vacation place multiple times a year.

Other than flood insurance and condo HOA dues, what other pitfalls or things should we be looking for?

Additionally, we are not currently working with an agent and would love to find one with rental properties and experience down there.

We live in Mooresville, north Charlotte, NC which is about 4 hours away.

Thank you for any input!
