Congrats on your first purchase! There are some great deals out there, especially multi-family properties. The key is finding those deals. Chicago is a hot market and the north side in particular is expensive. How are you researching? MLS? Let me know if I can help you in your hunt for your next property!

@Jaclyn McClellan Hey there! Ive noticed the same as you about the meetings mostly being in the suburbs. All the more reason to do your research to ensure you aren't wasting your time. There are a few members on here who have given reviews on different groups, you can find them doing a search. Im always weary of groups looking to sell or solicit me anything. Make sure you report back with your experience!

Hello @Albert Plawinski and welcome to BP! I too have a poli sci degree and you're right its pretty useless in this field. Your work background on the other hand will be helpful. Its a lot easier when you're somewhat familiar with the industry. Also, those connections you rattled off will come in handy! Your network is everything! Im a wholesaler in Chicago, Ill shoot you a PM to connect further!

@Casey Bollock Good call on jumping right into real estate investing, wish I would have right when I graduated. House hacking is a solid spot to start if you can make it work. Some people will tell you wholesaling is the way to go, others will say its the worst way to start. From what Ive found there are supporters and proponents of just about every strategy/technique. I think it more so depends on the individual. What kind of drive do you have? What are you looking to accomplish?
If I were you I would take the time you have until you know where you're going to be placed for your job and do as much research on strategies/techniques that interest you. That way once you know where you're going to be you can evaluate that market and implement the strategy that makes the most sense.
