Post: I've noticed the Catholic Church selling off lots of land. You?

I've noticed the Catholic Church selling off lots of land. As in acres upon acres, in cities around the world, but I'll stick to what I've seen in the US. I know some of it is to pay off victims, but I wonder if there are additional reasons. It's a lot of land and therefore a ton of money.

Has anyone here noticed this and/or bid on some of the land?

My point is, if you're looking for prime locations for real estate, you may want to check if Catholic churches near you (or elsewhere) are selling. Many cities/towns in the US were originally built around a church, so that land is still centrally located. Some of the properties are historic, so there would be special zoning laws attached, but most aren't. I've seen some churches specify who can bid on their property (e.g., must have done development work in the city previously, must be based in the city, etc.), so you may run into that as well. Additionally, I've seen churches that have their parcels envisioned in a city's 2040 Comp Plan as multi-family (high-density residential).

Agreed! Why choose?! Wealth has a buffet of financial options. Have your share! Go get what you want, and all you want. Make it all work together for your benefit.

@Gregory Schwartz I just wrote a letter and bought a house. Made no mention of anything fair housing related (personal info: race, marital status, religion etc). I wrote about what I loved about the house. Based on a minor artistic detail hung the house, I also noticed that the owner was familiar with (or just liked) a certain place and made a note of my own experience with that place. At the closing table, they told me how much they loved the letter and that it’s what won over the other 35 bids. A friend of mine did the same. We closed the same week.

If you get into fair housing info, then yes, it’s a liability letter.

@Nathan G. Check your local Zoning Ordinance as well. There should be restrictions on number of people, and also number of unrelated people/adults.

@Mindy Jensen

Traveling & eating great food on vacation (& at home). My big expenses are always travel & dining. 🤣 2019: Nairobi, Kenya (Safari, spas etc), all over Nigeria (good times with family), Bahamas, Paris/France, Los Angeles/San Francisco (same trip), Denver/Boulder (same trip), London, Amsterdam...and more! Love traveling!

Notable restaurant: The Pancake Bakery in Amsterdam.

Notable Hotels: Its all a tie! 1) The Hemingway’s & 2) Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi (Also check out the Giraffe Manor! They were sold out during our trip, but a great place to stay.) Amazing service across the board.

I like playing tennis, softball (short stop and left), learning to golf now...

I’m also in a social justice book club. Read The Color of Law again first, now working on Invisible Man (Ralph Ellison).

@Mike D.

Covid will likely be around for a long time or permanent. This is not the first coronavirus, just a different one: COVID-19. We will hopefully be able to better manage it soon (next year), but that won’t happen by December—not likely in the middle of regular influenza season. It’ll get better as the other illnesses have, but without a vaccine released & people using it...it’ll take more time. I’m not about to take the early release that’s supposed to come out prior to running its final trial. Too risky for me!

This situation is insane and too many landlords get stuck holding the bag. But...landlords can still hold fees due, taxes (and even rent) at the end of the eviction moratorium. If the tenant doesn’t pay at that time, they can then be evicted. Who knooooooooooows when that will be. Kicking the can down the road as usual! I believe unemployment is 10% on average, so 90% are working. Of course...some areas and portfolios can be hit harder than others...and some maybe not at all.

@Daron Williams technically it’s still an annulment since it’s been less than a year. Some folks have provided great info!

None of these marital problems are related to REI since they exist before & without real estate. Communication, need for self-love, battling depression etc.

My spouse has no interest in REI and that has no weight in whether we remain married. We will! The house we've built in love cannot be bought or sold.

Good luck! 👍

@David Boatman

You made the right choice. I’m actually about to sell my Audi convertible for the same reason. Also...this thing is so poorly made that I see the dealer every other month (seems that way!). Its been a little over 2 years. It’s super comfortable & a great ride though! I’ll miss it, but I’ll get over it quickly.
